Feiolix contains 3 key bioactives that helps with metabolic regulation

  • Abscisic Acid
    • Increases energy usage by increasing thermogenesis in humans.
    • Binds to the GLUT4 in skeletal and adipose cells. ABA sensitises GLUT4 to glucose in the blood stream and increases the amount of glucose absorbed from blood stream
    • ABA binds to LANCL2 and increases insulin secretion and ultimately absorption of glucose from the blood stream.
    • ABA triggers the secretion of GLP-1
    • Inhibits NFkB which leads to less disruptive hunger signalling and leading to feelings of satiety
  • Polyphenols (Specifically ellagitannins and catechins)
    • Converted to bioavailable urolithins, which promote insulin and GLP-1 secretion
    • Bind to the bitter taste receptors in the intestine promoting GLP-1 secretion
    • Inhibit NFkB to lead to feelings of satiety
  • Dietary Fibre (Xylans and Xyloglucans)
    • Provide food to the microbiome that is converted into SCFA’s

Feiolix and Clinical

Feiolix has also been tested in adults with diabetes. Thirty-two participants consumed 150mg extract (equiv. 2300mg powder) of Feiolix daily for 12 weeks. Outcomes of Feiolix consumption were:

  • Feijoa extract significantly decreased (p < 0.05) in fasting blood glucose and haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c).
  • The magnitude of change seen with HbA1c (decrease by 0.86) is considered by FDA as clinically significant as pharmaceuticals for diabetes treatment are approved with changes of greater decrease than 0.5.
  • Cholesterol and triglycerides also decreased significantly
  • Trial participants in the Feiolix extract group showed no significant changes in the standard liver enzyme, serum creatine, albumin, and urea. These data show no toxicity is observed in the feijoa extract.

How does Feiolix® work?

Feiolix® activates GLP-1 secretion and insulin secretion, amongst many other benefits. It has been tested in pre-clinical models of diabetic and leptin deficient mice. Outcomes of Feiolix® consumption were:

  • Feiolix® significantly (P <00.5) reduced the amount of weight gain (24% less than non-Feiolix® extract-fed obese mice) compared to placebo

  • Feiolix® significantly (P < 0.05) decreased the food efficiency ratio (conversion of food to body weight) compared to placebo

  • Feiolix® significantly (P <0.05) cholesterol and triglycerides levels compared to placebo

  • Feiolix® significantly improved insulin resistance compared to placebo

  • Feiolix® significantly (P < 0.01) decreased pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-4 (IL-4) and tumour necrosis factors
